Field Notes

Description:

This long tailed lizard has a white 'teardrop' dot behind his eyes.
It seems to have freshly molted as its skin was very soft and shiny and refracting rainbow colors in the sunlight.

Habitat:

Hibernating in a log.

Tasmania has a very limited reptile population, with only three snakes, one lizard, and sixteen skinks (seven of which are endemic). So I appreciate them all the more.
Thank you lori.tas Yes, this is just one of 520 species of (all groups of lizards) in Australia. That's more than all my spottings so far.

Thank you Harsha. You are a champion and this is definitely the same species. There are certainly many different tiny skinks to be found that all seem similar at first glance.
