Description:

Clavulinopsis sp.? Clavaria? Clavulinopsis sp.? According to The Collins Guide to Mushrooms and fungi by Paul Sterry you need a microscope to distinguish, with certainty, between Clavulinopsis luteoalba http://data.nbn.org.uk/interactive/map.jsp?srchSp=NBNSYS0000020759, C. helvola http://data.nbn.org.uk/interactive/map.jsp?srchSp=NHMSYS0001477900 and C. laeticolor http://data.nbn.org.uk/interactive/map.jsp?srchSp=NHMSYS0001477902 judging by NBN gateway distributions, C. helvola is the most common so I'll go with that for now! Clavulinopsis fusiformis also grows in these tufts but first-nature.com says it doesn't have the white tips as een on a few of the fruitbodies in my spotting. http://www.first-nature.com/fungi/clavulinopsis-fusiformis.php

thanks Cindy! it seems almost alien
Thanks again for the nice comment Antonio! I found out that it's impossible to exactly ID this species without looking under a microscope but there are three likely candidates. By the time you read this, the description should be updated
