Step 1: Locate a tree that calls to you in your backyard. It can be your favorite tree, a weird looking tree, or a tree you have been interested in for a while.

Step 2: Make observations. Bring out a notebook and take as many detailed notes as possible. You can even draw it if you like. What shape, size, and color are the leaves? Is it deciduous or coniferous? Does it have a smell? How tall is it? Is the bark smooth or rough? Where is it growing and what is growing around it? etc.

Step 3: Take some photos. Bring out a camera and take photos of the tree. Make sure to get one photo of the whole tree as well as close ups of the leaves, barks, twigs, buds etc.

Step 4: Identify that tree! Bring out a field guide or do some research over the internet. Just do your best. If you cannot identify the tree, try to list a few possible species.

Step 5: Upload your photos onto the Project Noah mission. Once the photos are uploaded write down a well detailed description of your tree, the habitat it was found in, and any extra notes that you found during your investigation.

The purpose of this mission is to document a wide variety of trees that can be found right in our backyards. Students will locate a tree, identify it, and then post the information here.
