Students collect specimens of microinvertibrates from the Salmon River. The specimens are documented and identified. Depending upon the type and number of macroinvertebrates, it is possible to infer the quality of the water. Students engage in this field study annually, so changes in the population of macroinvertebrates can be tracked.

Using the CT DEEP River Bioassessment by Volunteers (RBV) Program Field Data Sheets, students will collect, identify, and document macroinvertebrate population in the Salmon River.
