Description:

Speckled black bird with white spots. Found dead near pine trees, 1/4 mile from Sligo Creek.

Definitely a female Downy. Aside from the bill size, note the markings on the outer retrice feathers visible in photo two. Hairy lacks those markings.
Poor Girl! (and I think it's a Downy Woodpecker because of the beak size and proportion)
It looks like a female Hairy or Downy woodpecker. Without a size it is hard to tell. The female Downy is about 6.75" while the female Hairy would be closer to 9" in length.
