Field Notes

Habitat:

Open grassland near cattle pastures

Notes:

This rodent made its residence under a discarded couch in a field. I have no experience identifying rodents, so if anyone can help, I'm in northeast OK.

A co-worker suggested the eastern wood rat (Neotoma floridana), and I think he may be right. There is a lot of debris gathered in the nests I found under the couches, and this rodent is larger than Peromyscus. Thank you for the info!
I am not certain if this is a deer mouse, or a white footed mouse, however both have the same genius, so if you are not looking for the exact classification, you could just say mouse, and then put Peromyscus as the scientific name and you would not be wrong as they are both found under this grouping. I am sure someone will come along who can tell the two apart using your photos.
