Field Notes

Description:

I found what I thought could be Formes fomentarius (Horse's hoof) or a similar looking species. The first photo is of a piece of the surface of the fungus soaked in a drop of potassium hydroxide! Can anyone tell me if this is F.fomentarius from this pic?!

Notes:

According to wikipedia, in order to positively identify F.fomentarius you can take a small piece of the suface of the fungus and it will turn RED when you put a drop of potassium hydroxide on it. This looks kinda brown (see second photo)...?

The last photo is of another fungus that was growing on the same tree stump

the 3+4 picture should be fam. "ganoderma" (look for species : "adspersum" or similair one). pic2 is a too young conk pic 5 - can i not really recoginze, but i doubt it's neither ganoderma or fomes.
yeah you might be right I used 2 or 3 drops from a pipette, it was a 25% solution.
Yep... definitely brown. Our fungi hotshots aren't around at the moment. Maybe you used too much :)
