Field Notes

Description:

Head and wing coverts are very dark brown and contrast with the generally medium brown plumage

Habitat:

The eagle hunts small mammals and similar, mainly terrestrial, prey.

Notes:

I was in the gardens of the Victoria Memorial Hall when this eagle fell into the pool of water. It was knocked down by its fellow birds. It managed to swim back to the edge of the pool, where it sat drenched with a tormented look on its face.It couldn't fly.I went to try and help it.It tried to strike me.Though pretty close,I used my telephoto lens at its maximum to get a shot.We had informed the authorities nearby about this bird, they took necessary steps for it.
Looks like Aquila clanga, Great Spotted Eagle on the list of Vulnerable birds, on the IUCN list. Any Id suggestions would be really helpful.

Species ID Suggestions

Golden Eagle

Aquila chrysaetos

Welcome to Project Noah. Beautiful spotting! Did the Eagle fly away? I think it would be okay. Raptors love playing around in water.
Please confirm my suggestion. I am not an expert on raptors of India :)
