I have been birdwatching in Tucson since 1980 so I'm quite sure they are Broad-billed Hummingbirds. There are only 4 species possible in the Tucson Valley. This one plus Anna's, Costa's and Black-chinned. They all look like they have Broad-billed markings. The bill has a bit of red or orange on it which is not really seen l in these photos. Also when they fly they tend to make a sound not just wing sound. Did you hear this?
My apologies!! Wow! I hope you guys figure it out! ;-)
@Liam I added a pic of the mama bird sitting on the eggs. Pic 5 I believe it is. Hopefully this will help. I would love to know what type these guys are.
Could you upload the pics of the mother? It could help make the ID definite.
I have about 100 pics of these two and their mama. I was lucky, they were in a place where I was able to easily watch (and talk lol) to them every day. After they flew out of the nest I still saw them. It was like they came to say hi around the same time every day
@Liam. Pic 1 is from the day they left the nest if that helps. Thank you for all your insite and help with iding my pics. I love taking them and you help me learn about them. Thank you
@christy These are all pics of the same birds in the same nest. I watched these little guys grow and they are all pics of the same humming birds.
Not sure if we can ID the hummingbird species by seeing just the chicks. Most hummingbird chicks look very similar. However, I might think Magnificent Hummingbird (Eugenes fulgens) based on the extensive amount of white behind the eyes and the "scaly" pattern on the throat. According to eBird, they're expanding their range.
Cute pics! But you have at least 2 different species...the hummingbirds (pic 1 & 4) and what look like baby songbirds in 2 & 3...you might want to separate them into 2 different spottings so people can view both species separately. Would love to see future pics of both nests!
Great spot - how lovely to be able to watch this little brood from the beginning! Welcome to Project Noah Anthony!
