Field Notes

Description:

I think this is a club moss.

Habitat:

It was growing on a mountain trail in dense, low vegetation (Old Women's Mountain). Kodiak receives heavy rainfall, and the soil is great because the area on the top of the mountain has been mostly left undisturbed since a volcanic eruption years ago on another island left a layer of ash.
