Field Notes

Description:

Praying Mantis - Peach color with lite blue legs. She has produced thee egg casings in 55 days. Likes to eat Bees and crickets.

Habitat:

Lived on big cactus on my porch near hummingbird feeders where the Bees came to feed for three weeks. Then matted and I put here in a nice glass home with wood and plants and sand.

Notes:

She has been with me for three months now. I moved her inside now that its cold in Ramona.

Welcome to Project Noah, hbird999! This is a wonderful find. What I think you have found is a species of Stagmomantis. There are two species in your area Stagmomantis californica (California Mantis), and Stagmomantis limbata. Your specimen might be an albino or leucistic or a rare color variation. I am not sure. I did find this one which was also found in California: http://bugguide.net/node/view/439744 I am pretty confident on the Genus. I am not sure on the species. Very nice series!
