I couldn't get any closer there was too much foliage in our way, my husband had to hold the branch and turn it towards us to get the shot as it was. We assume they are some kind of grasshopper? Anyone know?

They look very similar to Dobson flies, which are pretty common here. Dobson flies aren't that colorful though.
Wow those are beautiful!!! They may be some kind of tree cricket, but I really think they are a kind of Walkingstick or Stick insect. However I did not find any that colorful.
