Field Notes

Habitat:

Found in downtown Austin, along the Lamar hike/bike trail.

Notes:

Fish hatchery? Males building nesting areas to attract females? I didn't see anything that I thought resembled eggs, but the fish were definitely guarding these little circles. A single fish would swim in the center of the circles & chase away smaller schools of fishes and/or other fish that appeared to be of the same species. I believe it could be the Longear-Sunfish: http://shoalcreektx.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/Longear-Sunfish.jpg
