A danger to necks. I've been bitten twice in the neck (in Quincy) and they hurt worse than a bee sting.

One of the Longhorn Beetles. If I had to guess I'd say Spotted Pine Sawyer - Monochamus clamator. http://bugguide.net/node/view/57237 This should be in the "Arthropod" category.
