Field Notes

Description:

Tortoise with a smooth black shell on top and creme and 10 black spots on its belly.
No legs or head to be seen.

Habitat:

In the jungle near Seletar Reservoir, Yishun, Singapore.

Notes:

I was walking with my dog and he went into the jungle and started to bark. He came out after a while carrying this tortoise. I am really sorry. When I shouted at him he dropped the tortoise and walked away. Luckily the tortoise had pulled its head and legs into his shell. I checked him and he was unharmed. I waited a while but he did not come out but I was sure he was alive because when I had picked him up he had moved his shell and closed it.

Not a tortoise, but a turtle. I think it's the southeast Asian box turtle, Cuora amboinensis. See what you think! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amboina_box_turtle
