Field Notes

Description:

Small fish (~5cm) that were in a temporary pool of water in a deciduous forest! There were so many of them in this small, shallow pool of water, which was not being fed by any water source aside from rain. I wondered how they got there and were able to survive considering this pool of water is often dry and only fills up when there has been consistent rainfall.

Habitat:

Small, temporary woodland pool.

Notes:

Not great pictures, I realize. But, I wanted to post them for the sake of documentation and because I thought it was interesting and odd to find fish in a small pool of water in the forest.

Species ID Suggestions

Eastern blacknose dace

Rhinichthys atratulus
