Field Notes

Description:

Small puffballs growing from hardwood mulch. Looks very similar to Lycoperdon nigrescens, but could easily be a Scleroderma, which are common in the area. Found in May, following long wet spring.

Habitat:

Hardwood mulch in garden in mixed woods.
