Field Notes

Description:

About 1 meter tall. Hairy well-branched stems with 3 lobed leaves. Leaves simple at top of plant. Flowers positioned alternate, only uppermost in bloom. Ray flowers 3 lobed dark yellow/orange. Cone dark reddish purple.

Habitat:

Clark Reservation State Park. Mostly shaded.

Notes:

My field guides point me toward genus Coreopsis or maybe Rudbeckia, but no species match.
