Field Notes

Description:

3/4" long green fuzzy banded social caterpillars - early instars of some kind of tent moth species, possibly Malacosoma disstria.

Habitat:

Cumberland River trail

Notes:

Unfortunately these were too high up for me to get macros of the individual caterpillars.

That was my thought Jacob but I've not been able to find a match online. I think they are too hairy to be instars of the eastern or forest tent caterpillars.

They look like a form of tent caterpillar, or perhaps an early instant of Lymantria dispar?
