Found around 3,200 feet on trail in Shenandoah National Park.

This is indeed a carabidae beetle larva. I agree with Anne. A young cricket will look similar to an adult cricket.
Anne: it certainly seems to match—thanks! I'm going to update the ID based on this. It moved quickly, so it was hard to get a decent photo of it with my phone. Too bad, the color and markings were pretty striking.

most bizarre. looks like a cross between an earwig and a tractor millipede.
Good question—haven't a clue! Hoping someone here can help ID it.
