Field Notes

Description:

Really long legs....Hughes legs unlike a dragonfly. Definitely flys...movements mimicking a praying mantis with his arms held out in front of him.

Habitat:

Don't know it was just on my patio but we live in rural area outside of Lawton Oklahoma...lots of Cicadas, crickets, wolf spiders and grasshoppers in the area.

Notes:

Look how long the legs are!!! It's sitting on a toy truck....those aren't straps...they are legs!

Species ID Suggestions

Hanging-Thief

Diogmites discolor

Hi Wendy, interesting find! I agree this looks like a Hanging-thief. Here is another page from Bugguide. They have those long legs to help them catch prey. http://bugguide.net/node/view/4600/bgpage
Never heard of one... This thing was like an inch long. Flys get that long? What do they rob? Small pets?
