Wildlife Spotting

Thanks Chester. I love that mushroom expert site and have used it to identify many species. Instead I pulled out my mushrooms of WV (Roody 2003) for a quick ID, but just read in your link, "Illustrations of "Russula virescens" in several North American field guides (published or placed in press before Russula parvovirescens was named in 2006) appear to represent Russula parvovirescens, including Metzler & Metzler (1992), Roody (2003)..." I'm going to change it in my guide now!

I had this issue with one of my spottings, and after some research discovered that R. virescens distribution has yet be confirmed in North America, if not unlikely. As per the link provided the virescens-crustosa group is a more complex group than thought, that represents at least a dozen taxa in the eastern U.S. http://www.mushroomexpert.com/russula_virescens.html

The first one is the green quilt russula. Can't help on the second.
