Description:

Found in northwest West Virginia.

Habitat:

Upland hardwood forest. Lots of red and white oaks. Sugar maples and American beech.

Hi CorduneanuVlad is right about it being an Amanita, but I don't think it's The Blusher. I think you should check subsection Lepidella for the correct id. http://pluto.njcc.com/~ret/amanita/sectlepi.html
Looks like a young Blusher (Amanita Rubescens) nut I can't be sure. More photos would help.
