Hi Seema. Syzygium comprises about 1200 species, and has a native range that extends from Africa and Madagascar through southern Asia east through the Pacific. There are 52 native species in Australia, and even amongst those there is are great variations in fruit but not all are edible. I've got Syzygium luehmannii in my yard... and the bats and possums love the berries. but I've yet to try them. At first glance this looks like a variety of an Australian native rainforest tree called a Lilli Pilli - Syzygium sp. It is also known as Riberry, Small Leaved Lilli Pilli, Cherry Satinash, Cherry Alder, or Clove Lilli Pilli). It is commonly grown as an ornamental tree and the berries are popular for making jam.
