Field Notes

Description:

This is a sunflower there the tips of the petals are yellow but the middle. part of the flower is a deep red with a black center and a small purple circle within the black.

Habitat:

My grandfather's garden in Westchester, New York. The flower receives plenty of sunlight and gets watered once a day.

Notes:

I noticed that the sunflower had frown to be pretty tall. It was also in worse condition than most of the other flowers in the garden, probably due to the change in the weather. Some of its petals had fallen off, while others had bites from insects taken out of them.

Farther south, we have summer wildflowers that have this color pattern. I don't know if it's the same or not, but it might be a lead: https://www.wildflower.org/plants/result.php?id_plant=coti3
