Field Notes

Description:

Some kind of floating nest or bird dock. Layered with reeds and it looks like the chamomile may have been planted on it for the young to nibble on? There are 2 grooves on either side of it for adults to anchor in and rest. Anyway, very cool find while kayaking in Pike Lake, Saskatchewan Canada.

Habitat:

Swamp-ish. Lots of lily pads and reeds.

It actually had about 3 feet of dead reeds keeping it afloat. Unfortunately it was too cloudy that day to pick that up. Very cool though!
Wow, that is fascinating!
