Description:

Another small, lovely ground-cover plant growing under a tree. Moss. Just collecting them for now, searching for an online resource to help with IDs.

The plant is maybe three-quarters of an inch tall. No sporophytes. Frunaria looks like a good candidate. I'll follow up on it ... thanks, Miles.
here is another idea, I am not sure if you have a dicotomous key to figure it out but it could be a species of Frunaria. How tall is the vegetative portion of the plant? Could you find any sporophytes? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Funaria_hygrometrica
I know, right? When I get close to take photos of tiny plants, I often find there was more present than I first saw. These photos were meant to capture the asterisk-shaped plant ... but there's also the spindly moss and a leg of another kind of moss off to the left. Viva la small things!
the thin spindly one in the center image immediate to the stick looks like a species of Dicranum. As for the neighboring community I don't know.
