Field Notes

Habitat:

I spotted these branching fungi down in a dark space in our wood pile (which has been left uncovered and neglected for a few years so is host to several different fungi). The wood pile is made up of elm logs (but approximately 2.5 years before the picture was taken)

Notes:

I had to use the flash to light the area up enough to get any pictures. It did not seem especially wet/damp down there (you can see no drops clinging to the spider webs, for example).

When I went back to measure it a couple of days later I found the wood pile had shifted and I could no longer see down there so I can only guess (which I'm rubbish at) that the stem's diameter was 3 cm or so.
