Field Notes

Description:

Unidentified white polypore growing on (presumed) live oak logs in partial shade. Cone-like shape when looked at from the side. Interesting concentric rings on the top of the cap. Attached to logs by a very short white off-center stipe penetrating into the wood. White spores. Very small pores. 5-10 inches in diameter. Flesh was flexible and white all the way through. It smelled strange when I sniffed it but I’m not good at describing smells, it was sort of an herbal smell.
