Yes, moth ID is sometimes a real nightmare ;-)...
I had forgotten how hard it was to separate these moths... now I know why. Thanks bayucca !
Arctiidae, Ctenuchinae, Syntomoides imaon. Another common name might also be Handmaiden Moth (?). I think that some of these tricky group of Syntomoides and Amata are wrongly IDed on the web. So I added some with the correct ID to compare: http://ccs-hk.org/DM/butterfly/Arctid/Syntomoides-imaon.html http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/12346063 http://www.flickr.com/photos/52923744@N05/5734107948 http://www.flickr.com/photos/66943918@N07/7102181135/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/samsonso_photography/3335023537/ http://www.jpmoth.org/~dmoth/77_Arctiidae/75%202%20Syntominae/Syntomoides_imaon/Syntomoides_imaon.htm http://www.flickr.com/photos/lindadevolder/4243989841/ Handmaiden Moth, but no scientific name added: http://www.indianaturewatch.net/displayimage.php?id=346769 Wiki link with in my opinion wrong picture: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syntomoides_imaon http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Syntomoides_imaon.JPG Might be also a Syntomoides, but in my eyes not Imaon. Amata phegeo is not found in India, but to be honest, my first thoughts were also Amata ;-)...
