Field Notes

Description:

My first night in Mexico whilst sitting at my new friends and work colleagues table in Coatepec a mini helicopter sounding, bright green beetle flew all around my head before landing by my hand. My new Mexican amigos showed me that they are very friendly and you can pick them up - although I was dubious! I soon found out they were quite right and my first creature encounter was to play with this intelligent, curious and fascinating little beauty. It's eyes were like glass marbles, I'd never seen anything like it. And if you watch the video you will hear me whistling to which the little fella begins to dance ! on the tip of my finger which gives me quite a fright at first to which you will hear a pathetic little brit squeal. :)

Please can someone let me know if this is a female scarab beetle ? Or if I have that wrong. Thanks

Thanks Luis! Your spottings are amazing btw!
Nice find Gemma, although it did find you. I like the second pic best and the video is so funny with it dancing. Congrats.
