Field Notes

Description:

I found this dragonfly larvae among some weeds at the edge of a large wetland managed for wildlife. I don't have a clue, however, as to the species. It is about 1 cm in length. I've been observing its behavior for the last couple of days and it does not move around a lot and doesn't appear to respond very much to movement. As a result, I don't think it is a darner, which tend to have relatively good eyesight and are active, stalking hunters, but that doesn't narrow the ID process by much. I'm guessing it is a skimmer (chaser). Any ID help would be appreciated.

When taking this photo, I thought it might be a pretty good one. But when I first saw it on the computer monitor, I just had to laugh. Thanks for the kind comments....
Interesting, just waiting until he can take off into the blue sky!
