Field Notes

Description:

I spotted this spider on the first night up to my cabin. She spun her web right at my-face-height. It's an amazing amount of luck that I didn't walk smack into it in the dark! She seems to have made a little home on our clothes line, 2nd and 3rd pic illustrate the scale.

Habitat:

Open space in deciduous woods.

Great! And I do think they might be the same kind of spider actually. The color/design is just variable. Yes, the abdomen is orb weaver I would think and with the web photo definitely. I had no web. I just haven't come across this spider yet. Awesome! Thanks for sharing.
