Very much appears to be a gopher snake I second everyone else, but I wouldn't say for sure until I saw its head.
Hi Erin! Do you have a photo of the whole snake? It does look a lot like you other spotting of a gopher snake.
From the pattern on the piece you got it appears to be a kind of rat snake or gopher snake. There should be websites that have different species of local rat snake species listed.
