Sorry! forgot to attach the reference! http://www.swcoloradowildflowers.com/tree%20enlarged%20photo%20pages/picea.htm Also, when IDing spruces, especially blue spruce, if you pet them the "wrong way" they hurt very Pungently, hence the specific epithet. Or at least that's how my dendrology teacher had a remember it!
