Field Notes

Description:

A pair of small fungi growing in woodchip mulch. The cap is flat with darker coouring towards the centre, slightly upturned margin; gill look pale but stained by dark spore; stipe lightly hirsute narrow dark. 45mm across, 60mm tall. The smaller one had a very dark cap and the larger one a very pale one.

Habitat:

Council woodchip mulch bordering sports field and open dry eucalyptus forest.

I agree it's not ideal for ID - it's partly about the pic :-) Corts are a monster group. Thanks for the input. You obviously know fungi.. got some to share?
Tough to see the features in this particular image. Possibly a Cortinarius species.
