Interesting! I'm wondering if this is a species of Sawfly.
Not sure what that was - there are young black cherry trees, glossy buckthorn, several dogwood species, and viburnums all in that area. I didn't think until after I got home to look more closely at the plant.
What kind of plant was it feeding on? That can help determine species of caterpillar sometimes.
