These were growing on a living tree in an area of Old Growth forest, Cyprus Provincial Park, West Vancouver

Very true Pam. They are often similar looking but not the same. I'll have a look at your other recent American fungi. There's some other spotters in here now who know them well and I'm sure they'll tell me off when I get them wrong. :)
