Field Notes

Description:

Snake 3-4' long. bronze/copper color on upper half of body with white on lower. Lower band of white has markings of yellow while uppper body ha markings of beige/cream with black edging. Upper body makrs are circular in shape and chainlike as they reach and stop at lower body color band.

Habitat:

This snake was seen slithering across pavement; most likely came from landscaped areas of trees, flowers and bushes.

Notes:

This is the second snake seen April 8, 2011 at Lion Country Safari in West Palm Beach Florida but was definitely NOT one of the exhibits. It crossed the pavement (almost under my feet!) and entered one of the landscaped areas where it proceeded to move very fast across the mulch and back into the areas of heavier growth.

Thanks, NeilDazet. I'm glad to be able to put a name to this snake. He interruped my ice cream cone that day!
