Field Notes

Description:

Dark green back with orange hairs on the legs. Dark, semi-transparent wings. Approximately 2-2.5 in. (5-6.35 cm) long.

Habitat:

Grassy terrain with trees and an artificial pond.

Notes:

Appeared to be feeding on smaller insects (ants?). Possibly a beetle, although somewhat moth-like features.

Xylocopa sonorina, the valley carpenter bee or Hawaiian carpenter bee, https://typhlonectes.tumblr.com/post/674940490539483136 To my eyes, the male is a good match; especially the orange, hairy legs.
