Field Notes

Description:

A moderately large spider has a body length of about 3-3.5 cm and a leg span of 15-17 cm. The body is a fuzzy dark brown and the legs are dark brown with light brown patches, especially towards the toes.

Habitat:

Found on outside wall of cement block bldg (700 masl) in the Amazon rainforest of SE Ecuador.

Notes:

A nice-sized very quick spider.

Great find!, could be a spider in the genus, (Ctenus). Some specimens of Phoneutria fera come quite close like this one, https://abload.de/image.php?img=p10601354pkc.jpg.
Felix & Ornithoptera, thanks for the input. I'm sure it is in the Ctenidae family, which includes the Brazilian Wandering Spider, but this one isn't a Brazilian Wandering Spider. You would never get this close to one of them without it assuming the posture shown in my spotting of one https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/423323473 Also, the marking aren't right. I assume it's one of the huntsman or tropical wolf spiders that are so plentiful here but haven't been able to nail down a Genus species.
