Hey thanx...I thought it was a Syrphid fly...but wasn't sure coz the others that I've come across are just yellow n black striped...this one has white stripes as well...and was found in North-East India.
Neat find! This is a species of fly from Family Syrphidae. They are called Flower Flies, Hover Flies or Syrphid Flies (all the same types of flies). I am not familiar with the species in your area but this should give you somewhere to start.
