Field Notes

Description:

I was pulling grass from my garden today (which is really crappy clay dirt now that the gas line people dug up this portion of my garden and put it back... all the good soil is somewhere in that huge pit instead of right on top in my flower garden), and I saw this insect. It did not look like something I would have wanted to touch.

Habitat:

I will assume it likes to be under rocks, gardens, dark earthy areas.

Species ID Suggestions

Rove beetle

Platydracus cinnamopterus
