Description:
This fuzzy, robust, active caterpillar has been tentatively identified on BugGuide.net as a Tiger Moth in the Tribe Arctiini.
Habitat:
It was photographed underneath pines in a mixed pine-hardwood forest in the piedmont region of east-central Georgia. The location was along the Bartram Trail (Lake Springs Section) in Columbia County, GA near Thurmond Lake.
Notes:
On the Facebook Inset ID Group, Grammia was suggested as the genus. I thought that I'd give the Project Noah nation a shot at assisting with the ID. It just may not be possible to further classify the species based on these photographs.
