Thanks Malcolm. I'm really new to bird watching and I'm amazed at how I have grown to love it! Sometimes I get lucky when identifying and sometimes I don't!! Its great to have so many people who can help.
Your actually have 4 species of Swallow in Queensland, the White-backed Swallow also being common, but it has no red. The Barn Swallow (less red and dark all round the neck) and Red-rumped (much more red) Swallows are listed as scarce migrant and vagrant respectively.
