Field Notes

Description:

My sister was going outside to do the laundry at night. Luckily she took a flashlight with her or else she would have stepped right on this guy. It was huge. I accused it of taking my ornamental shell as a home, but my husband says he's seen another specimen that had the same perfect shell. So perhaps he didn't steal my shell...but I can't find it in our backyard now...But this lil bugger was so big and meaty that I brought him inside to show mu husband. I put it on a plastic bag so he wouldn't slime all our stuff. He let me take come pictures and we put him out in the front yard, away from our fruits in the back.

Hi there. Can you tell us a little bit about what's going on in this photo? Also, I've moved this spotting to the Other category. Arthropods is for the jointed-legged invertebrates. :-)
