Field Notes

Description:

Caterpillar. Yellow/orange in color.

Notes:

I am posting this on behalf of a friend. This is her photo; she has given me permission to use it in the hopes of identifying this caterpillar. The only details I have for this spotting are what I can see in the photo.

This is the closest I could find: http://bugguide.net/node/view/59467 Tufted Thyatirin , Pseudothyatira cymatophoroides: http://bugguide.net/node/view/24740 I wish I could find more info. Hope it helps!
Hi Elaine! I have a book called Caterpillars of Eastern North America by David Wagner. It's quite helpful for me who is pretty bad with caterpillars. I also use the browse tab on BugGuide: http://bugguide.net/node/view/82/bgpage I click on adult or caterpillar based on what I am looking for, and I go from there. :-)
How in the world do you even begin to research these, J? I've even resorted to running searches for "yellow caterpillars in Massachusetts"!
Amazing color! Reminds me of Acronicta sp., but I can't find one like yours.
