Wildlife Spotting

Unfortunately there are no baby blur, sky blue or cobalt blue or any other crayola box blue phalaenopsis orchids naturally occuring on this planet. Orchids, not unlike many other flowering plants, may have the word blue, indigo or another word describing blue in their nomenclature but generally turn out to be a shade of purple. This latest “blue orchid” scam is entirely different. The blue phalaenopsis orchids currently popping up are described as “color enhanced” (that’s a matter of opinion as far as I’m concerned) and a nice way of saying, “we’ve dyed a perfectly beautiful white orchid blue and are tricking you into thinking we’ve come up with the latest and greatest orchid”. Oh, and by the way since we’ve fooled you so well we can charge you a very big price for playing a big joke on you. Well I say it’s not nice to fool Mother Nature and it’s not a lot better to fool your customers .
