Could you take a look at this?

It is an Erythrina Sandwicensis, commonly known as "Wiliwili" , a plant wich is endemic to Hawaii...
If we knew exactky the location we coyld suggest an ID...Now, although that seed pod is pretty similar, we can not know if it is the correct one
Welcome to Project Noah, ptosis! I hope you enjoy it here! Please take some time, if you haven't already, to read through the FAQ page. You will find some useful guidelines for posting and such: http://www.projectnoah.org/faq
Would you please add a location to your spotting, this will help us to find out what organisms can be found in your area. You can also put this in the Plants category.
Do you happen to have any other pictures of this plant (like leaves and such)? Can you tell us a bit more about it? It would be helpful if you added this in the description section of your spotting. You can also add the description of the area where it was found in the Habitat section. You can change those things but going to Edit on your spotting.
It's a seed in it's seedpod, obviously, but could you give us some imformation, as about where did you see it ( e.g. area, country, environment etc), what kind of a plant it was (e.g vine, bush, shrub, tree etc)...
Otherwise it would be extremely difficult to give you an ID...
(it would be impossible to me, anyway ;)
