Field Notes

Description:

The body is about 2.5 cm in diameter and is colored a mottled olive green. Also it's abdomen is covered with a fine fuzz. It's legs are each about 5 cm long and are striped with red and black. The legs also have fine hairs on them. When it isn't crawling on it's web it's usually sitting very still with it's legs curled up around it.

Habitat:

Side of front porch. It strings its web between the porch post and the house. The web is large, usually around 3.5 feet in diameter. I took these pictures after a storm as it was respinning it's web.

Notes:

When I caught it to take up close pictures of it, it held really still in the container, curling it's legs up around itself. Even when I flipped it over with a leaf to take pictures of it's underside it held really still.
